Simulation-Based Performance Analysis of HSDPA for UMTS Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper investigates the performance of TCP over High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) link in the third generation Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS). The throughput performance of TCP has been considered with both round robin and maximum carrier-tointerference scheduling schemes. A simulation based approach is adopted to determine the total cell throughput, both under ideal and Rayleigh fading conditions. Simulation results show that, HSDPA can effectively provide high throughputs, but with fairness depending upon the scheduling mechanism.

The Use of NS-2 Simulator in Studying UMTS Performances
Abstract – Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) is a third-generation mobile communications system that supports high bit rate wireless multimedia applications. In addition to UMTS, HSDPA-based UMTS networks improve the initial UMTS networks in terms of radio resource allocation and data transfer performances. Due to the complexity of such system and difficulty of access to the real...
متن کاملPlanning of UMTS Cellular Networks for Data Services Based on HSDPA
This paper addresses the planning of UMTS cellular radio networks, for data services when implementing HSDPA, enabling the evaluation of the network performance in different scenarios. An algorithm was developed to allocate carriers, either exclusively for Release’99 or HSDPA, or to be shared between the two, taking multi-service users spatially distributed in a non-uniform way. A simulator was...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of TCP Variants over UMTS Networks
With the evolution of 3G technologies like Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS), the usage of TCP has become more popular for a reliable end-to-end (e2e) data delivery. However, TCP was initially designed for wired networks and therefore it suffers performance degradation due to the radio signal getting affected by fading, shadowing and interference. There are many strategies propos...
متن کاملEvaluation of MPEG-4 video streaming over multi-hop cellular networks
Next generation communication networks will comprise third generation (3G) cellular and multi-hop ad hoc networks. MPEG-4 video streaming can be a killer application for this novel multihop cellular network. The paper has evaluated the end-to-end performance of streaming MPEG-4 video over a multi-hop cellular network that comprises the High-speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA), Universal Mobile...
متن کاملEffect of TNL Flow Control Schemes for the HSDPA Network Performance
HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) is an extension of the current UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) technology with the objective to increase the data rate and to reduce the latency in the downlink. The main focus of this investigation is to optimise the Iub interface to provide the best end user performance at minimum cost for UMTS HSDPA network. An adaptive credit-based...
